On March 19, a sold-out crowd of over 200 enjoyed the Battaglia dei Cuochi (Battle of the Chefs), a good-natured competition by three chefs, each representing a region of Italy. Representing the north was Ristobar’s Michele Belotti, representing the central part of Italy was C’Era Una Volta’s Rutilio Duran and representing the south was Massimo Covello.

The winner was Michele Belotti who served polenta gialla integrale con fonduta di taleggio e burro nocciolo (whole wheat yellow polenta with taleggio fondue and brown butter) and carnaroli risotto with basil pesto. For dessert, everyone enjoyed zeppole di San Giuseppe provided by Gary Rulli of Ristobar and gelato from La Copa Loca. This gastronomical extravaganza was co-sponsored by the SFIAC, the Fieri Club of San Francisco and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura San Francisco in collaboration with Viola Buitoni
